Fly Fishing Guides in New Mexico

October 21, 2013 All Fly Fishing Report

THE RIO GRANDE HAS FINALLY CLEARED AS THE RAINS IN COLORADO HAVE ENDED AND IT SHOULD BE SNOW FROM NOW ON. THE FIRES IN THE CREEDE AREA EARLIER THIS SUMMER LEFT THE RIO HIGH AND DIRTY THRU MUCH OF THE BEST PART OF THE FALL SEASON BUT IT IS ON NOW.

CIMARRON: 23CFS GOOD FLOW AND BROWNS WILL BE ON REDDS. AT LEAST THERE IS A LITTLE FLOW FOR THE SPAWN. DON'T TORTURE THE FISH TOO MUCH AT THIS TIME PLEASE.

RED RIVER: 18/45CFS AND A LITTLE OFF-COLOR. THIS IS PROBABLY A GOOD THING AS VERY CVLEAR WATER MAKES FOR SPOOKY FISH. OLIVE HARES EAR BEHIND A DRY FLY WORKS AS WELL AS ANYTHING. SHOULD BE SOME SPAWNING BROWNS IN THE SYSTEM SO SIGHT FISHING IS RECOMENDED.

RIO GRANDE;210CFSIN CERRO AND 400CFS IN PILAR. BEST FISHING OF THE YEAR HERE AS WATER IS CLEAR AND A BIT HIGHER THAN USUAL . STREAMERS AND NYMPHS ARE YOUR BEST BET ALTHO I LIKE TO FISH D&D WITH A 2' DROPPER AND THAT WORKS ALSO. A RUBBER LEG STONE IS A GOOD OPTION FOR A 2 FLY NYMPH RIG WITH SOMETHING SMALLER BEHIND IT.

CONEJOS: 37CFS FROM PLATORO 117CFS IN MOGOTE.  THERE ARE A LOT OF BROWNS STAGING IN THE MEADOWS FOR SPAWNING AND SOME CUTBOS BEHIND THEM EATING EGGS IF THAT TURNS YOU ON.

CULEBRA: 32CFS AND CLEAR. WORK HAS BEGUN AT THE DAM BELOW SANCHEZ SO NO WATER IS BEING RELEASED AND THE FLOW IS ALL OFF THE MOUNTAIN. CLEAR AND DIFFICULT FISHING BUT ON  THE ODD DAY IT CAN BE GREAT. WE FISHED THERE  A WEEK AGO AND IT PRODUCED SOME VERY LARGE CUTBOS UP TO 24". OTHER DAYS NOT SO GOOD. A CRAP SHOOT AT BEST.BROWNS SHOULD BE SPAWNING HERE TOO AND ON MY LAST FEW TIMES ON THE RIVER I HAVEN'T SEEN ANY BROWNS OVER 12"

EMBUDO: 36CFS NO REPORTS BUT THE FLOW IS GOOD. THERE HASN'T BEEN ANY WATER IN THIS STREAM ALL SUMMER SO THE HEALTH OF THE FISH POPULATION IS IN QUESTION.

CHAMA: ABIQUIU.253CFS. I DON'T LIKE IT MUCH HIGHER THAN THIS BUT FALL IS THE TIME HERE. NYMPHING WITH POUNDMEISTERS IS A GOOD OPTION.
